Veggie Gardens  Food Forests  Native Plants

Bliss Gardens is a specialty gardening service focused on edible ecosystems. I love to help people grow their own food, nurture beauty and biodiversity, and make gardening a joyful and fun experience for all!

about

I design, install, and maintain home gardens for clients in Los Angeles. My gardening ethos is rooted in supporting biodiversity, climate resilience, and food sovereignty. As a UC Master Gardener and certified permaculture designer,
I blend my experience to create designs that are informed by both ecology and whole systems thinking.

I specialize in veggies, herbs, tea plants, fruit trees, berries, as well as landscape plants including California native and drought-tolerant, climate-adapted cultivars.

Consultations

I offer in-person consultations to discuss your household’s growing goals and ideal use of your outdoor space. During the consultation I will conduct a site analysis to investigate your garden’s sun & shade, microclimates, existing greenery and fixed infrastructure, irrigation, and soil health. From here I can offer recommendations, take soil samples, and/or proceed with the design process.

Design
I offer landscape design site maps of your outdoor space, as well as plant palettes of the specific plant cultivars and number of plants you’ll need for your design.

Installation
I source all the edible and ornamental plants from organic growers for your project, including fruit trees. I build raised beds and elevated raised beds, work with trusted irrigation specialists and laborers, and install plants and trees for your garden.

Maintenance
I offer ongoing (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) scheduled maintenance of your new or existing garden. Maintenance services may include: seasonal fruit tree pruning & fertilizing, organic pest & disease management, veggie & flower pruning and fertilizing, replacing annual plants seasonally, trelissing plants, container plant care, weeding, and harvesting.

about bliss

Hi, I’m Bliss (yes, that’s my real name!) and I am an LA-based graphic designer turned ecological gardener, educator, and UC Master Gardener.

Throughout my twenties I tried and failed at finding my place in the corporate and nonprofit worlds. I switched careers several times but nothing felt right. I enjoyed the creative problem solving of graphic design, but working behind a screen was killing me. That’s when I learned about permaculture and how I could apply my graphic design skills to ecological landscape design and gardening. I quit the 9-5 life and threw myself into this new world.

Now, you can find me installing native plants in a client’s yard, teaching high school students how to grow plants from seed, hosting open hours at the community garden, or trading seeds at a seed swap with garden friends. I have found no greater joy than digging my hands in the soil, learning from and teaching others about plants and Southern California ecology, and building community around food sovereignty. I am passionate about getting people of all ages excited about growing food and reigniting their connection to land.

Check out my personal portfolio site here.
